In January this year, I visited the orphanage Another Hope again. We had been in contact ever since I visited them last year. I wanted to make some videos and finish the concept of how Your Siblings could support Another Hope, considering our criteria. In the beginning we had the plan to expand the existing chicken farm, so they could make enough profit to cover the monthly costs of the orphanage.

After reflecting over the expansion, Ruth (the founder of Another Hope) realized that this plan was not going to work out. The farm had to be big enough to take care not only of school fees for the kids, but food for them and rent as well. This is a lot of money and the plan was not well thought out. A much better solution would be to build a house owned by Another Hope itself, to take off the biggest cost factor. A slightly smaller chicken farm would still take care of the basic needs. The property on which the farm was built and where the new house is going to be build already belongs to Another Hope. The detailed plan for this lasting project can be viewed on the Internet.

Another Hope provides education for kids, but also healthy food, medical aid and lovely welfare. It is nice to be there and it is nice to see what Ruth has created. On this visit I had the big wish to show all the people who cannot be on site how fantastic this chance really is for the kids. I did not want to show how the children play or eat together, but to show how the kids are. How lots of them live before they come to Another Hope, how kids live for who it would be a blessing to attend an orphanage like Another Hope. A place, where they can not only start a life worth living, but a future. I hope my (not very professional) videos can give a small impression of how countless kids live on the street on Kampala. To get to the point: The realization of this new house would give a home to 30 (!) of the street children in the videos—give them a future.

Once we have taken care of the costs for the new building, Another Hope will be able to finance itself. With additional donations, we could take care of more investments or an expansion of the orphanage. But we do not need to worry about the basics; the monthly costs are taken care of.
